Golf Classic raises $132,000 for Youth Programs

The Museum hosted its Seventh Annual Newport Sports Museum Golf Classic on Monday, June 16th, 2008.  With the help of over 150 participants, the Museum was able to raiseapproximately $132,000 for its youth programs.

The Golf Classic followed a slightly different format than previous years.  This year, in addition to the scramble format, the Museum also offered players the chance to play in the “Partner Best Ball” format with the opportunity to win a spot in the Mercedes-Benz Amateur National Final in Maui, Hawaii.  The scramble players were able to play a round of golf with famous athletes such as; Marcel Dionne, Mike Garrett and Bill Sharman!  The tournament was followed by a cocktail reception, dinner and a silent auction of over forty amazing items including; the Angels Presidents Seats for an Angel game, USC sideline passes, and a basketball autographed by John Wooden!

The night concluded with the exciting live auction where participants outbid each other for once-in-a-lifetime opportunities including; a trip to the Masters, a six day trip to Hawaii, and the chance to ride with the USC football team on their team plane!

The Newport Sports Museum would like to thank all of those that helped with the Seventh Annual Golf Classic including; Roger Dunn Golf Shops, Anaheim Ducks, La Jolla Bank, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Mercedes-Benz of Laguna Niguel, USC Athletic Department, Rick Godber, Bob Hoff, Don DuBois, John Hagestad and Terry Hackett.
